This text would be a revelation to someone unfamiliar with Tom Kyte, Joe Celko, or Chris Date. However, given that I own books by all of the former authors, I have to say relunctantly that I am unimpressed by much of the book. His explanations are tough to unravel, and while I do not doubt the math behind some of what he chooses to employ to prove his assertions, I find the reading experience tortuous. This is not an easy book to use, and I suppose his initial caveat that "this is for advanced practitioners only" is supposed to buy him an excuse if you fail to comprehend his text. In my case it does not, as I am confident it's not me, it's him.-C

Cannot find any practical design patterns for SQL programming. Although I was expected to learn some practical design patterns for SQL programming just like GoF's Design Patterns in the field of object oriented programming, however, it is quite disappointed.

ok vadim knows his stff. but i want to see more emphasis on the practical sections (like sql servers pivot operator, which i use in practice all the time but only got 3 pages, whereas really weird stuff like graphs got like 50 pages.if your into the super deep stuff u might check this out, however if u are a practical user, than this will be pretty useless.

It is good book for average to advanced programmers. "Expert" in the name is somewhat misleading. Tips and tricks in this book are mostly well known. If you have more than five years experience as DB programmer - this book might be not so valuable to you as for guy who is working with DB programming a year or two.

First let me point out, there are several problems with this book.1) The author's english is a bit broken so in some places you will find yourself frustrated by having to read things twice or more to understand it.2) The author has a great mathematics background, but again in a few places, this actually gets in the way as most of us do not have such a deep mathematics grounding and so won't understand what the math is trying to tell us. Knowing there is a sound mathematical set of principles behind things is nice but the details and symbols are often too deep for me.3) For those of us who are actually ADVANCED developers, there may be little here in the way of new tips or tricks because you will already know and practice many of the techniques discussed.INPSITE OF THESE DETRACTORS, I give the book five stars and suggest that anyone looking to go to the next level with their SQL skills should read it for a mind set, because it has the potential to actually change the way we work. Language issue aside, it clearly articulates the idea that it is possible to make a mental leap that will take you from average sql development to great sql development. I liken it to what my typing teacher in High School once told me: "when you stop thinking about the letters and start thinking about the words, your typing will improve dramatically with fewer errors and faster results". In the same way, this author shows us there is a mental leap to be made with sql. The number of lines of code does not matter. What matters is ideas. When we stop thinking about number of tables in the from clause or number of joins in the where clause, and instead start thinking about DESIGN PATTERNS, the quality of our sql code will improve dramtically just like our ability to type did when we made the simple mental leap from letters on a page to words in a sentence.This is a refreshing new look at what we do. I have thought for some time what the author is saying, but I could not express it in words till I read this book.Hail Flavius!

This technique however requires COMMIT (like a deferred constraint).

I really liked this book. Great examples and explanations of complex ideas. It has definitely helped me to better understand Design Patterns. I plan to come back to this one.

"Made in America" is as unassuming as its author, Sam Walton. It is written in very colloquial plain "American" English, so you can almost image Mr. Walton, in his death bed, dictating this little book of wisdom. It is filled with many pearls of wisdom, on how to be a small business owner, on never giving up and always trying new things. I am surprised more people don't read this little known book, given that Sam Walton has to go down in history (maybe Bill Gates?) as the most successful entrepreneur in American history. The book is not filled with technical lexicon found in MBA programs. It is a non nonsense book, told from Walton's perspective. I recommend this book.

Interesting to read all the things that Sam Walton did to make this company the huge success that it is and to see how many of those same elements are consistently missing from almost every store I visit today. Too bad Sam, you built a great company but the people who run it now only care about the bottom line.

This is an excellent book from quite an interesting character.... and by that I mean one of the richest and most productive people who ever walked the planet. When you look at what this guy built, how could you not read his personal story? I mean, look at what a massive thing he built! And he did it from very humble roots with brains and ambition. I really admire this guy after reading this book, and it is well written and interesting.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Sam Walton's autobiography. This book is 26 yrs old now, but the story of how Sam built the Walmart empire from scratch and forever changed the retail industry is timeless. As expected, he built it the old fashioned way with lots of hard work and a passion to create something bigger and better. I highly recommend it for anyone with an entrepreneurial spirit.

Sam Walton dries to come across as a humble man with a lot of money, but this book is full of "self" praises. Half of the book is him talking about how other people think he's the greatest person since Jesus. His favorite thing in life is ladies panties, you will know what I'm talking about after reading this book.

Great story very much personalized by Sam Walton telling the story of the beginning and history of Wal-Mart from its beginnings till his death. At the same time almost an Autobiography of Sam. Highly recommended reading especially if you like American business and are a devoted Capitalist.

And his hypnosis techniques are great for calming you down so you don't overeat when stressed. This is not a diet and yes you have heard a lot of diets claiming it's not a diet but any program that restricts you from eating any thing, even a spice or a vegetable is a diet. period. this program lets you eat any thing as long as you like it. Although, the weight loss dropped to a pound a month as I started going to college and didn't have enough time to listen to the CD regularly. I saw an article online with seven day access to the audio from this book (a 22 minute hypnosis). After doing it for a few nights I was amazed at how much it was working for me, so I began an online search to download it permanently which led me here to the Kindle edition. Unfortunately what others say is true, the product code provided to enter on the Hay House website for download of audio/video DOES NOT WORK and is invalid. The only reason I bought this was for the audio. So frustrated.

This is an awesome book. I have struggled with being overweight for years. I have always known the root cause was emotional, but could never figure out how to change. This book explains what happens in the brain when chronic stress sets in. This is a program that treats the root cause. I've only been practicing the program for about a week, but already let go of 5lbs. Try it, you will not regret it.

A cd is not in the book, you have to do a download from their website. If you do not know how to do this( it really is easy) or do not have internet your local library will help you. Take a cd with you. The book along is not enough. You really need the cd and the downloads to work this program. There are 5 downloads. This goes for all the book this author writes.

I love Paul McKenna and his books. They're very easy to read in a day or even two. I re-read it and then start implementing his suggestions in the book. I seriously love his voice and accent!!! Very soothing and relaxing. I don't even need to sleep to listen to the hypnosis part of the recording. I'm still working on the Havening Techniques in the book. I feel that it helps overall. I feel more positive after listening to the hypnosis. Whether you believe or not, it certainly lifts your spirits. Hoping this will help with my emotional eating and things that were stuck in my brain and under the surface for so many years.

The last weight loss book/plan whatever that you'll ever need. It starts working immediately & just keeps getting better. Big fan!
