I checked this book out from the library. About ten pages in I knew I wanted my own copy. Reading it is a bit like sitting with Corita and listening to her tell you how to go out into the world and see all things differently. So yes, I really like it.

This book is pretty amazing, as was Sister Corita. I love her approach and reflections on art, the nature of art, and the creative spirit. It is such a rare and refreshing experience to come across an art book that carries with it so much truth, power, and depth. The exercises are taken from ones that she actually taught to her students and going through them really does free the spirit to experience the simple yet blessed joy of not only creating, but observing creation as well. I come back to this book every so often when I feel like I need to fill the well and it never disappoints. I am so glad this was republished, grab it while you can before it disappears again!

I am happy to have this book. It is pretty comprehensive and interesting. We inherited two of Corita King's prints and this book and another about her are on the table nearby!

After being out of print it is pure joy to have this fine book available again. It is written to engage and guide new artists into the wonder of creating art and at the same time it will inspire mature artists to reach deeper and stretch their artistic wings.After Sister Corita's death Jan Steward labored with great love and determination to finish the book they had begun together. She is to be thanked for bringing the brilliant teaching methods of Corita Kent to the rest of us.

About the Author
Brian is a Master Sommelier, Fellow of the Hospitality Institute, Licentiate and Honorary Member of City & Guilds of London Institutes, and an Honorary Member of the Academy of Food Wine Service. In 1972 he passed the prestigious Master Sommelier Diploma and was a founder member of the Court of Master Sommeliers World-wide, established in 1977. He has been Chief examiner since 1990 and Chief executive since 1998. Sometime Chief examiner for the C&GLI and the HCIMA Food and Beverage programs, he was a UK Government Inspector for Colleges and Universities until his retirement as Head of the Hospitality Management Degree programs, University of Plymouth, UK. He was Cellar Master for The Lord Clifford of Chudleigh for a number of years. In 2005 he was awarded the 3rd Annual 'Ho'okele' Award for Lifetime Achievement at the Kapalua Wine and Food Festival Maui Hawaii. He has had extensive experience in the Hospitality Industry in both practical and consultative capacities. He has visited nearly all the major wine areas of the world where he has obtained the majority of his wine knowledge first-hand from winemakers. The last few years have seen literally dozens of books challenging our beliefs about history and archaeology, each of them seeking to show that the past was quite different from what standard books tell us. With Uriel's Machine, Christopher Knight and Robert Lomas move away from their previous books about the Knights Templar, the Freemasons, and the strange chapel at Rosslyn in Scotland, and turn their attention instead to the much more distant past. The authors believe that Earth was hit by a comet in 7640 B.C., and by another one in 3150 B.C., each time resulting in great devastation. From their study of Stone Age monuments around Britain, and of the nonbiblical Book of Enoch, they conclude that Enoch visited Britain some time before 3150 B.C. to learn how to construct a megalithic celestial calculator that, amongst other things, could be used to forecast the arrival of comets. In the end, of course, there can be no absolute proof of this or any other rewriting of history--or indeed of more orthodox versions of history. Knight and Lomas's conclusions are controversial, but that in itself is no bad thing. Existing paradigms in every discipline should be challenged, and this is what they are doing. --David V. About the Author
Christopher Knight has a degree in advertising and graphic design and is the managing director of a marketing and advertising agency. In 1976 he became a Freemason.

Robert Lomas is the co-author of The Hiram Key, The Second Messiah, and Uriel's Machine. A Freemason, he lectures at Bradford University in England.

Prologue:

In the course of researching our last two books, we discovered that many standard explanations of historical events are little more than conventions assembled from limited information. We also found that there are veins of information about the past held within obscure texts such as the peculiar rituals of Freemasonry, some of which contain arcane knowledge of events over a vast period of time.

As Freemasons, we have assembled all of the available evidence within these rituals and found that they tell the story of he Jewish leaders from the biblical Flood down to the period of the Knights Templar. These old rituals make frequent reference to a worldwide Flood, and even today there is an entire order dedicated to preserving a verbal tradition about Noah, the builder of the Biblical Ark who survived the deluge, and his grandfather Enoch. There are lists of characters from the pre-Flood civilization such as Tubal-Cain who, Masons are told, invented agriculture and the ploughshare. The earlier rituals of the Ancient Scottish Rite of Freemasonry have not been in general use since 1813, when they had entire degrees devoted to Enoch, who was told by an angel called Uriel that he must preserve the secrets of civilization because a global disaster was imminent.

Masonic documents dating from the early 17th century, known as the Old Charges, tell how everything dear to mankind existed before the disastrous Flood and had to be reconstructed by the survivors. This is the same world-engulfing flood that biblical and Babylonian sources claim occurred at some point long before writing was invented.

Having discovered that the oral traditions of Freemasonry are the unwitting repository of so much accurate information of the past, we wondered if the idea of a global flood could be more than a legend. This spurred us to look into what is known of prehistory, and we were pleased to find that some of the greatest scholars in this area have already found what we discovered — that existing ideas are largely wrong. Professor Cohn Renfrew, Disney Professor of Archaeology at Cambridge University, expressed it perfectly when he said, “The study of prehistory today is in a state of crisis.”

To commence our new research, we posed ourselves three big questions:

1. Is it physically possible for the entire world to flood; and if so, what evidence is there that such a terrible thing has happened within human racial memory?

2. The oral traditions of Freemasonry claim that there was an advanced civilization before the coming of the Flood. Are these accounts just myth, or do they record a memory of a lost people?

3. Could all of this help us to construct a new paradigm of prehistory?

Perhaps we would never have started this complex mission, but for two things: The suggestion of leading geologist Dr Jack Miller of Cambridge University that a world flood is very possible; and the problems that Jupiter experienced in 1994.

F. Scott Fitzgerald was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, in 1896. He attended Princeton University, joined the United States Army during World War I, and published his first novel, This Side of Paradise, in 1920. That same year he married Zelda Sayre and for the next decade the couple lived in New York, Paris, and on the Riviera. I read this book as a requirement in high school Advanced Placement English. I actually enjoyed it. Almost 20 years later it was even better. I highly recommend classic literature lovers to not only read this, but to read it again later in life. The characters are relatable and the plot is much more interesting the second time around.

This review is about this version of the book, not the story itself. This is a "bootleg" version of the book, not an authentic publication. The cover has a poor quality picture (as evidenced by the visible pixels) and the book itself is typed in a different font than the publisher intended. I purchased this book for my son's high school english class and we had to get a different copy as this version has NO publication information. NO copyright information. Students are required to cite that information and this book doesn't even have a page for this information. Had I known, I would have purchased a different version. Unfortunately, the class didn't start reading the book until after my return window had closed or it would have gone back for sure. The Great Gatsby

I don't know how I made it through high school without reading this classic, but I'm so glad I get to come back to books like this and read them as an adult. I'm sure I would have learned stuff in high school, but I feel like I'm getting more appreciation out of books like this as I get older.The only thing I knew about this book before I started reading was that it was a shallow love story that ends with the girl dumping the poor, innocent guy....or something. And yes that is the plot, but I think the story can also be about the American dream and who it's really available to. What is the American dream? Is it just getting money and it doesn't matter how? Did we really get away from social inequality? I hadn't really thought about any of that before reading this book. It made me wonder what my American dream is. Do I just want to get lots of money, a big house, and tons of stuff? Or is there more to it than that? Without spoiling the end, I feel like Mr. Fitzgerald's opinion on the matter is that some people are born to live the American dream and some aren't - and there isn't much you can do to change it. The fate of Daisy and Gatsby really brings that tragic idea home.The parties were unreal. I was drooling over the mention of all the food. I couldn't help but imagine the Dowager Countess from Downton Abbey coming to Gatsby's house and being appalled at what Americans called "a dinner party." My mind was buzzing with all the practical details and sheer amount of money that it would take to feed two dinners and tons of alcohol to that many people... But the parties and glamour are just covering up the fact that most of these people are shady, immoral, hypocritical and just plain unhappy. Especially Tom and his wife Daisy.I loved the writing. It was simple, charming, and witty - an interesting contrast to the much deeper story going on. The last line about how we can't escape from the past points out that even though as Americans we say that anyone can achieve wealth, happiness and equality, the truth is we keep getting sucked into the rules of the past.The only thing I thought was overdone was the symbolic Eye Doctor bilboard in the ash valley. Don't let the symbolic Eye Doctor Ad/God's Judgement fall on you on the way out.Overall, a novel that got me really thinking about life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness in the context of a beautiful, tragic, and romantic story.

When he died, scholars started to assess his work, and The Great Gatsby was recognized as an important work of literature. Besides its recognition, one must also think about its meaning for us in the present day. The “prohibition” period that he writes about was a strangely decadent period in America. Furthermore, the catastrophes of the Holocaust and WWII changed much about the U.S. and its position in the world. Since then, too, there has been substantial progress in civil rights, including the rights of women. In this sense, his novel seems parochial, and not very relevant for us today: Too much has changed about the world. Nevertheless, I think that if you approach the novel with an open mind and some knowledge of the historical context, you can see elements that remain of interest today. Fitzgerald was struggling with themes that are larger than his times, and still speak to us today. In this sense, I can recommend this book.
