Dr. Silber has built up a world-wide following of parents who had children they otherwise would have never known and loved, many after visiting his infertility clinic in St. Louis. I was surprised to learn the first consultation appointment is free of charge per the website- refreshing among the sea of greed permeating fertility programs. How to get Pregnant is step 1 before visiting the clinic or seeking out Dr. Silber's assistance. I appreciate his forth-right nature of explaining medical terms in layperson jargon so patients and clients can understand and apply his wisdom.How to Get Pregnant is one of the best books on the market for understanding fertility, methods used to treat infertility and the pertinent information relevant to each of those methods.. Also check out his book How Not to Get Pregnant to understand natural family planning as well as Making Babies: A Proven 3-Month Program for Maximum Fertility.UPDATE: I've now met Dr. Silber in person as a patient. I was not all that impressed. First, he's a urologist, not an OBGYN according to other doctors I've spoken with since then. Second, Dr. Silber wanted to push very expensive fertility treatments instead of working with the body naturally to get pregnant. Save yourself the trip. Read this book but do so while looking around for naturopath, an OMD or other holistic health healer if you want to try natural methods to increase fertility.
Excellent book! I read this after having my surgery done by Dr. Silber for a reversal of my tubes. It was a success and 2 months after the surgery and reading this book along recovery we became pregnant naturally at the age of 41!We tried IVF prior to meeting Dr. Silber and was told that due to my age I would not have a successful pregnancy; we sent all of my medical records to him from SRM and the next day after reading my chart his nurse called me to tell me that I was a better candidate for a reversal vs. the IVF.
Well, it is a little bit technical, if that is what you need. But the IVF technology is moving along so fast, and I can not say the message in the boom is all very subjective and comprehensive. I did not address the emotional, personal part of the how to process.
Do yourself a favor and buy a recent version, not the 1980 version! Luckily the seller was kind enough to give me a full refund. The book was cutting edge in its time, but you need the 2007 version or later because Fertility science has advanced so much.
I read this book and was both excited and overwhelmed with the amount of information it provides about infertility and alternatives. It emphasizes IVF throughout the book, but don't let that deter you from reading it if you've already decided not to go that route. I found it very informative on infertility issues, especially the section that covers types of tests doctors can conduct to determine or rule out causes. It goes into much more detail about the whole process than any other book I've read. I highly recommend it to anyone trying to conceive who has not been able to thus far.
I read this book twice and find it very informative. It has become my reference point whenever I read something off the internet and want to check the claim etc. I have lent it now to my girlfriend and she is glued to it.

This book is fabulous. If you are reading this book, then obviously you must have some questions in this area. You've come to the right place (or book rather!). Being a patient of Dr. Silber's I can say that reading this book is like having the doctor talk to you live. It is like having him talk to you face to face. Answers to all your questions are inside his book, and if you are reading it for reasons of infertility, you will relate to this book 100%. I highly recommend this book to anyone being faced with fertility issues.
